Road Safety Revolution
Winning the Fight against Distracted Driving
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
Pause and Picture This:
- Imagine getting the phone call that your child was killed in a car crash by someone updating their Facebook status.
- Imagine the call said your mother died while another driver hit her while trying to place an online mobile food pick up order.
- Imagine the call said your wife died when another driver hit her while texting silly emoji responses to a friend.
- Now imagine you killed a sole provider husband and father of three doing the same things.
In 2024, North Carolina distracted driving resulted in 145 deaths and more than 20,312 injuries.
There is no excuse for driving distracted.
If we need to eat, talk, email, text or get directions we can:
- Pull over - Pull off the road!
- Set the GPS navigation before we leave
- Turn up volume or Bluetooth for navigation directions
- Always go hands-free
- Automate responses saying "I'm driving" to respond to incoming calls or texts
- Put the phone in the trunk or back seat if needed
Take the pledge
The fight to end distracted driving starts with you. Make the commitment to drive phone-free today.
I pledge to...
- Protect my life and the lives of others by never texting or holding the phone while driving.
- Be a good passenger and speak out if the driver in my car is distracted. Offer to assist.
- Encourage my friends and family to take the pledge with me and drive phone-free.
